Lourmarin chateau

During the morning : guided tour of Aix en Provence.
The old capital of Provence has kept a great deal of the character imparted to it in the XVIIth and XVIIIth. The sober elegance of its mansions, the graceful charm of its squares, the majesty of its avenues and loveliness and its fountains are impressive.

You will love to stroll through the heart of the town, in the pedestrian old streets to discover the façades of the baroque ochre coloured private mansions. These dwellings were built for the nobility, each with a concept and style corresponding to the residents' social importance.
The city also boasts a wide variety of fountains. Aix is the "city of water, city of art".
Among other buildings of interest : the cathedral, the town hall, the Corn Exchange

(full market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)

For the afternoon : visit of Several villages of South Luberon

Lourmarin : It nestles in the middle of vineyards, olive groves and almond trees. A very animated village in the summer due to its numerous cafe terraces, restaurants and boutiques.
You can admire its medieval / renaissance castle, its temple, its interesting pigeon house, its provencal bastides, its "boîte à sel" belfry...
Albert Camus, winner of the Nobel Literature Prize, lived and wrote here and was even buried here.

Vaugines and Cucuron are located at the foothills of the Luberon mountain range. Far from the main tourist routes, they are old, simple, quiet and very authentic. They were both chosen as the setting for famous French films taking place in the Provencal countryside, such as "Jean de Florette" or "Manon des Sources" masterpieces written by the famous writer Marcel Pagnol, born near Marseille. More recently, some scenes of " a good year" written by Peter Mayle has been shot in Cucuron.

Cucuron is a member of the Most Beautiful Villages of France association, and is constructed in the usual style of the Middle Ages, with streets and houses winding their way up to a castle at the highest point (only the castle's dungeon remains).

We will walk around the medieval part of the village inside the old rampart walls, taking in the best view over the rooftops from the donjon (dungeon) St Michel. The pool, located at the bottom of the village is an enjoyable place, framed by 200 year old plane trees.. Here life seems to have stopped, long ago.
